Kayak & Float Plane Adventure in the Gulf Islands
West Coast Day Trip Adventure with Ferry, Sea-kayak & Float Plane
2 - 10 Participants
Protected from the open ocean and close to Vancouver, the Gulf Islands are a sea-kayaking paradise. Marine life here is among the most diverse in the world’s temperate waters. Rocky reefs, lush kelp beds and protected bays are home to a myriad of marine invertebrates, fish, and sea mammals.
Seals, river otters and sea lions are often observed in the Gulf Islands. Sightings of Killer Whales, harbour seals and Dall’s porpoise are rare, although they too inhabit these waters. Colonies of gulls and cormorants are scattered throughout the area, which also contains several breeding sites for bald eagles, oystercatchers and pigeon guillemots.
Discover the rich eco system of the West Coast of British Columbia on a sea kayaking adventure along the shores and remote beaches.
Your adventure begins with a ferry ride to Galiano Island where you embark in comfortable two-seater sea kayaks.Qualified and knowledgeable guides will interpret the wildlife around you and make sure your trip is safe and memorable.
Our tours are interpretive and educational. Guests will gain knowledge of the marine wildlife of the Gulf Islands region, experience the wonders of the intertidal zone and will learn about the extensive First Nations history of the region. All Marine Park Tours include an interpretive nature walk on an island trail.
Destinations may include
Wallace Island Provincial Marine Park - The numerous beaches, coves and offshore islets provide plenty of sheltered paddling opportunities in this picturesque park. Bald eagles, black-tailed deer and mink are common in the park, as well as harbour seals, sea lions and river otters, which can often be spotted offshore.
Prevost Island (Gulf Islands National Park) - Prevost Island, or Hwu'eshwum ("Place of Seals") as it is known by the Hul'q'umi'num First Nation, is a fantastic kayaking destination offering abundant marine wildlife (the possibility of Orca sightings if you time it right), pristine forest wilderness and incredible vistas!
A gourmet brunch is served on a remote beach. Your adventure ends with a floatplane ride into the sunset back to Vancouver.
Experience or fitness are not required for this trip.
